چکیده

The effect of solutal Marangoni convection on flow instabilities in the presence thermal a Si-Ge liquid bridge with different aspect ratios As has been investigated by three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulations under zero gravity. We consider half-zone model between cold (top plane) and hot (bottom disks. highest Si concentration is top bridge. ratio (As) drastically affects critical numbers: number (under small numbers (MaTAs≲1800)) same dependence as (400≲MaCAs≲800)), i.e., it decreases increasing As. azimuthal wavenumber traveling wave mode increases decreasing As, larger wavenumbers (m=6,7,11,12, 13) appear for As=0.25, only m=2 appears when one larger. oscillatory modes hydro waves have extracted spatiotemporal structures using dynamic decomposition (DMD). present study suggests proper parameter region quiescent steady suitable crystal growth smaller

The Hysteresis Phenomena of Flow Patterns due to Thermal and Solutal Marangoni Convections in a Liquid Bridge under Zero Gravity

The floating zone (FZ) method is one of the growth techniques used to grow single crystal materials. FZ growth is achieved in a containerless environment (without a crucible) by the movement of a molten zone of a solid rod, which forms a free-standing liquid bridge between two solid sections. However, the surface tension along the free surface of the molten zone varies due to temperature and co...

Transient Rayleigh-Bénard-Marangoni solutal convection

Solutal driven flow is studied for a binary solution submitted to solvent evaporation at the upper free surface. Evaporation induces an increase in the solute concentration close to the free surface and solutal gradients may induce a convective flow driven by buoyancy and/or surface tension. This problem is studied numerically, using several assumptions deduced from previous experiments on poly...

Transition to Chaotic Marangoni Convection in Liquid Bridge

Marangoni convection is investigated in cylindrical column using a liquid with Pr=4. The present results are targeting on the study of the non-linear characteristics of the flow under zero-gravity conditions. The transitions to periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic flows are investigated numerically. The 3-D oscillatory flow is a result of a supercritical Hopf bifurcation and the periodic orbit ...

Introductory analysis of the Bénard-Marangoni convection

We describe experiments on Bénard-Marangoni convection which permit an useful understanding on the main concepts involved in this phenomenon as, for example, Bénard cells, aspect ratio, Rayleigh and Marangoni numbers, crispation number and critical conditions. In spite of the complexity of the convection theory, this work carries out a simple and introductory analysis of it which has the additi...
